Please tell us a little bit about yourself and your coffee company. What inspired you to start “Roasts for Coasts”?
Hello! My name is Adele! I am a mother of a soon-to-be two-year-old, I love coffee and I love the Outer Banks. It all started back in 2019 when a trip to the Outer Banks turned into the desire to give back. Like many others, I fell in love with the beaches, the community, and the rich history that resides there. I got the pleasure of meeting the members of Outer Banks Forever and learning about the impact they are making along the coast of North Carolina.
I knew I wanted to help, but little did I know I would soon meet the love of my life and become a mother to my beautiful daughter. Trust me when I say that we would not have been able to survive every stage of parenthood without coffee. Coffee has since become an everyday consumption in our home, and with that love, paired with my longing passion to give back to the Outer Banks, Roasts for Coasts Coffee Co. was created.
Roasts for Coasts Coffee Co. is a family-owned small business founded in 2023 out of the love for coffee and the passion for giving back. What started as a conversation turned into the drive to start a business and quickly led to the foundation of Roasts for Coasts Coffee Co.
How did you decide on the name “Roasts for Coasts Coffee Co.”?
The name “Roasts for Coasts Coffee Co.” came naturally and surprisingly quick considering I often take too long to decide on names for anything. Our cats still don’t have names and we’ve had them for over a year! I wanted my business name to be easy to remember and very transparent about what we do. The name coincides with our slogan “Every Roast Helps Our Coasts,” meaning that a portion of our proceeds from every bag of coffee sold gets donated to Outer Banks Forever.
Why are our Outer Banks national parks important to you?
The Outer Banks national parks are important to me because they hold a sense of community and purpose that is hard to come by in the world today. Aside from the gorgeous scenery and the wildlife, the people who reside in the Outer Banks are truly what make this place so special, offering a level of hospitality and care that you’ll be hard pressed to find elsewhere. The Outer Banks national parks are full of rich history, wide-open shoreline, and brimming with personality and purpose, making this special place so spectacular.
What is your favorite way to enjoy our Outer Banks national parks?
Being a history buff and someone who is obsessed with enjoying every moment of relaxation I can get, the Outer Banks is the perfect place to experience history, take in beautiful scenery, and let the waves wash all your worries away. My ideal trip would involve visiting the historic sites such as the Wright Brothers National Memorial and Fort Raleigh National Historic Site, enjoying some good eats and cold drinks at the local restaurants, and spending every other moment relaxing at the beach.
What is a favorite memory you have from visiting our Outer Banks national parks?
I have been to many places across the United States, but my visit to the Outer Banks will always stand out to me as one of my favorite spots. Not only did I see the ocean for the first time here, but I also got to visit the Wright Brothers National Memorial, Fort Raleigh National Historic Site, and stop at every lighthouse along the way. My favorite part was spending my trip with my family, eating unforgettable food at the local restaurants, and soaking up the rays on Cape Hatteras National Seashore.
Why did you choose to support Outer Banks Forever?
I chose to support Outer Banks Forever because my stepmom, Tracy, the former Chief of Resource Management and Science for the National Park Service in the Outer Banks, highly recommended this organization. My sister, Shea, also had the opportunity to become a full-time Biological Science Technician with the National Park Service for two summers – monitoring sea turtles, their nests, and the various wildlife that inhabits the shores of the Outer Banks. After seeing the dedication and the passion for what the staff and supporters of Outer Banks Forever do for their community, it was no question that they would have my full support.
