KILL DEVIL HILLS, NC –Ahead of National Public Lands Day, Outer Banks Forever, the official nonprofit partner of Cape Hatteras National Seashore, Fort Raleigh National Historic Site and Wright Brothers National Memorial, and Swells’a Brewing Beer Company, the only ocean-view brewery in the Outer Banks, have teamed up to support the Outer Banks national parks through 1% For The Planet.1% For The Planet was founded by Yvon Chouinard and Craig Mathews in 2002 to encourage businesses to give back by donating 1% of their sales to organizations that work to protect the environment. Since its founding, 1% For The Planet has grown into a global network of more than 5,000 members, one of which is Swells’a Brewing Beer Company. “What makes our brewery different from most? Well, obviously, the beer! And then the location – there are few breweries with sea views and with that comes a big responsibility to Mother Earth,” said Samantha “Sam” Harriss, artistic director and co-owner at Swells’a Brewing Beer Company. “We are making strides in planet-friendly options, and we hope other breweries and businesses will follow suit. We also carry a ton of local products and try to work with other companies that understand the importance of their footprint on this fragile planet.” Each year, Swells’a Brewing Beer Company will commit 1% of profits to help Outer Banks Forever in its mission to protect and enhance the Outer Banks national parks. As part of their partnership, Swells’a Brewing Beer Company and Outer Banks Forever will also co-host “Pints for Parks” events throughout the year, which encourage locals and visitors to come to the brewery for evenings that are fun and educational. “We are so inspired by how dedicated the team at Swells’a is to supporting our Outer Banks national parks,” said Jessica Barnes, director of Outer Banks Forever. “1% For The Planet is a great way for any business to show their commitment to protecting the environment, which is especially important here in the Outer Banks. We’re honored that Swells’a chose us to benefit from this partnership.” The next “Pints for Parks” event will be held on Saturday, Sept. 24, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. in celebration of National Public Lands Day, a day that “the celebrates the connection between people and green space in their community, inspires environmental stewardship and encourages use of open space for education, recreation and health benefits,” according to the National Park Service.
