The 2020 sea turtle nesting season has come to an end, but you can still support Cape Hatteras National Seashore and your OBX national parks with a general donation below! Make sure you join our email list so you can be the first to know when we re-open adoptions in 2021.
One of the most awe-inspiring reasons we all love Cape Hatteras National Seashore is that its pristine beaches are a perfect home for our favorite sea turtle friends. Each year, hundreds of sea turtles make their way onto our beaches to lay their eggs. Now, you can help us protect and enhance this special place by adopting your very own sea turtle nest!
With a minimum donation of $100, you can symbolically adopt a sea turtle nest at Cape Hatteras National Seashore. Your support of the Adopt A Nest program will fund projects and programs that protect and enhance Cape Hatteras National Seashore today, and for future generations.
Here’s how it works:
- Give! Donate online below (or mail your donation to us at P.O. Box 1635, Kill Devil Hills, NC 27948 with Adopt A Nest in the memo) to symbolically adopt your nest.
- Get your nest! Within 5 days of your gift we will assign you to a real sea turtle nest that is being tracked by your park staff. Once we assign your nest, we will send you your adoption certificate by mail and email you initial information about your nest.
- Wait to hatch! When your nest hatches this summer, we will send you an update with information the park collects about your nest including turtle species, number of eggs, number of hatchlings, and more.
Important information about your adoption:
Your gift will represent a symbolic adoption of a sea turtle nest. Nature belongs to all of us – no individual or group that participates in this program can claim ownership of a sea turtle nest, eggs, or hatchlings.
Nature is also unpredictable. If your adopted nest is lost to a weather event or damaged by some other means, we will assign you a new nest that may or may not be shared with another individual or group.
